Role Summary

The SCADA Technician will perform the necessary activities to build the SCADA and automation system in the power network leading up to site commissioning to ensure projects are executed in accordance with company procedures, contract specifications and schedule commitments, quality standards. He/she will be responsible to carry out construction of equipment, conducting wiring and other SCADA related activities on site, implementing modifications or repairs of SCADA and communications equipment and fault finding. He/she will work with internal teams at the DNO, and with vendors as needed, to arrive at commercial options and document them. He/she shall interact with the end customers of the DNO for approval / reviewing of the design drawings and specifications along with investment plans periodically.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out site surveys, development of related single-line diagrams, development of automation flow charts.
  • Supporting the technical design of the automation plan and design along with the drawings and the specifications.
  • Understanding of engineering documentation such as P&IDs, process flow diagrams and standard operating procedures.
  • Deliberation of the technical design of the RTU panels, drawings, detailed specification etc. with the customers for acceptance.  
  • Has sufficient knowledge and or experience to avoid danger when working in a Grid or Primary substation.
  • Competent in use of hand tools, power tools and test equipment,
  • Capable of installing complex wiring within a substation environment and be familiar with copper and fibre optic jointing and basic manual handling techniques.
  • Hands on experience control system engineering design including schematics preparation, review of engineering documents, protection relay configuration, testing commissioning/ troubleshooting.
  • Configuration of network protection relays, energy analyzers and other peripherals.
  • Design and development of end-to-end communication network architecture starting from protection relays in the field passing through the RTU to the utility control center ensuring the sustainability of the data communication in the same path.    
  • Promote and enforces safe working environment by enforcing and supporting adequate HSE measures in all activities undertaken by himself & the team, follows ethics and compliances as per company guidelines.

Desired Experience

  • 2+ years hands-on experience of configuration, testing and integration of technical solutions and SCADA interfaces
  • Candidates are supposed to submit the at least a City and Guilds 2322 in Electronic and Electrical theory level qualifications or ONC/HNC or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with design tools like Autocad or equivalent for substation layouts, cable schedules, wiring and termination charts is nice to have.
  • Having a particular knowledge in one of the areas below:
    • RTU programming IEC(phone number removed)
    • Communication media such as RF, 3G/4G, Fiber, LPWAN etc.
    • Communication protocols: IEC 61850, IEC 104, DNP 3.0, MQTT
  • Familiarity with factory and site acceptance tests from design to approval phase.
  • Good communication skills with leadership qualities for team working culture, ability to generate techno economic reports with apt writing skills.
