Job Title: Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Plant & Equipment Specialist)



Role Overview:

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will focus on the development, approval, and maintenance of Plant & Equipment within a large industrial environment, with a special focus on railway applications. The role involves the creation of detailed technical documentation, engagement with stakeholders, and the oversight of equipment installation and commissioning.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Writing:

    • Develop detailed technical documents for tendering new Plant & Equipment.
    • Author Plant Approval documents ensuring safe usage of equipment on the Railway.
    • Prepare scoping documents for upgrading existing equipment.
    • Produce condition reports on existing Plant.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Collaborate with various stakeholders on the introduction of new production Plant, writing comprehensive specifications.
    • Lead or support the installation and commissioning processes for new Plant & Equipment.
  • Development & Engineering:

    • Drive the development of new Plant & Equipment specific to the railway environment.
    • Assess and document electrical load applications for new and existing equipment.
  • Plant & Equipment Expertise:

    • Familiarity with a range of equipment, including:
      • CNC Lathes & Milling Machines
      • Spray Booths
      • Lifting Equipment
      • Track Equipment (Railway specific)
      • Large Industrial Ovens
      • Overhead Cranes


Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Education & Qualifications:

    • Completed an Engineering Apprenticeship or hold an Engineering Degree.
  • Technical Expertise:

    • In-depth knowledge of Plant & Equipment in a large industrial setting, particularly within the railway sector.
  • Software Proficiency:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel for technical documentation and reporting.
  • Regulatory Knowledge:

    • Up-to-date understanding of Health & Safety Legislation, including PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) and the Electricity at Work Regulations.


Desired Attributes:

  • Strong technical writing skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage and engage with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading projects related to the installation and commissioning of Plant & Equipment.
