Job Opportunity: Senior Chef Position in a Prestigious Establishment

We are seeking a skilled and experienced chef to oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring that the highest standards of food preparation and service are maintained. This role involves supervising the preparation of meals for both staff and high-profile guests, with a strong focus on quality, consistency, and attention to detail. You will also be responsible for managing a team of chefs and kitchen porters, as well as deputizing for senior chefs as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and assist in the preparation of daily staff meals, guest meals, and special events, maintaining the highest culinary standards.
  • Assist the Head Chef in ordering supplies and managing stock levels, ensuring optimal inventory control.
  • Inspect food deliveries for quality and accuracy, authorizing invoices and payments when necessary.
  • Contribute to menu planning and development, suggesting improvements that align with the kitchen’s operational needs.
  • Ensure all food preparation meets stringent standards, particularly with sensitive ingredients.
  • Travel to other kitchens within the UK and abroad as required, ensuring consistency and high standards across all locations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in all kitchen and refrigerated areas, adhering to hygiene regulations.
  • Supervise and train junior kitchen staff, fostering their culinary skills and ensuring a positive work environment.
  • Act as the Chef in Charge on a rotational basis, making quick decisions in the absence of senior chefs.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • City and Guilds catering qualification (or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience in high-end catering environments, ideally at a Junior Sous or Sous Chef level.
  • Proficiency across all kitchen sections: Larder, Vegetables, Sauce, and Pastry.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to mentor and develop a team.
  • Proven experience in menu planning and kitchen organization.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to use initiative and make informed decisions.
  • Thorough knowledge of culinary legislation and hygiene standards.
  • Passion for the culinary industry and a commitment to excellence.
  • Flexible and positive attitude, with a hands-on approach to kitchen management.

Desirable:

  • Experience in high-volume catering.
  • Knowledge of classical French cuisine.
  • Understanding of kitchen French.

Additional Information:

  • This role requires evening and weekend work, along with occasional on-call duties.
  • Travel to other locations is necessary, with accommodation provided as part of the package, subject to a salary adjustment.
